NSC Boss Reaffirms Commitment to National Policy on Marine & Blue Economy

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius, MON, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting the Federal Government’s National Policy on Marine & Blue Economy.

Delivering his keynoteaddress at the Council’s Special Retreat with the theme “Achieving Strategic Intents Through Performance Lens” held at De Phantom Continental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, from 23rd to 24th July, 2025, Dr. Akutah assured that the NSC is ready to align its activities with the National Policy on Marine & Blue Economy.

Dr. Akutah informed us that all departments, particularly Legal Services, Strategic Planning and Research, Regulatory Services, Consumer Affairs, Inland Transport Services Departments, and Zonal Coordinators, are to align annual work plans with relevant components of the national policy.

Dr. Akutah lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his courageous leadership and visionary approach to governance, saying, “Let me begin by recognising and commending the bold and reform-orientated leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose Renewed Hope Agenda has injected a new sense of clarity and urgency into the governance of our nation’s strategic sectors.

Under Mr. President’s direction, the Federal Government has made an unambiguous statement through the creation of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy—entrusted with transforming Nigeria’s vast ocean economy into a catalyst for diversification, growth, and sustainability.”

The NSC boss commended the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, for his steady guidance and commitment to reforming the sector. He stated, “We are equally privileged to be under the astute leadership of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, whose visionary approach, steady guidance, and tireless commitment have galvanised key institutions within the sector, including our own Council, to embrace innovation, reform, and measurable impact.”

Dr. Akutah unveiled plans to deploy the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform by the end of the 3rd quarter of 2025, with full compliance across all departments and units by December 2025.
He directed the Regulatory Services Department and Information Communication Technology Unit (ICT) of the Council to collaborate with terminal operators and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to develop an integrated dashboard for real-time tracking of vessels and cargo processing metrics, which will form part of the Council’s monthly performance review.

Mr. Rotimi Anifowose, Director of Strategic Planning and Research, informed participants that the event marked a major milestone as stakeholders gathered for the validation of the department’s recently concluded strategic planning report and the formal signing of the performance bond between the Executive Secretary/CEO and Heads of Departments and Units.

He added that the gathering reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to accountability, results-based performance, and a continuous improvement in service delivery.
